World Mental Health Day 2024
World Mental Health Day. This year’s focus is ‘It is Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace’.
By bringing more awareness on this topic, it will promote more funding to be put into creating and implementing workplace policies such as flexible working hours and being more accepting into talking about mental health in the workplace.
One thing that has become more popular in recent years is “wellness days” where a company gives their employees a paid day off to do whatever the employee likes to do for their wellbeing without deducting it from their holiday allowance.
Being in the medical aesthetic, skin and beauty industry I have many clients who book in appointments with myself to come to their home on a work wellness day. This is for a treatment or a consultation, as they have the time out of their busy lives to do so. As I built my company with a focus being mainly on people’s mental wellbeing, these types of appointments and bookings mean a lot to me.
As part of one company’s mental health improvements in the workplace, they invited me into the office for a few hours. I set up my mobile clinic in one of their rooms and staff had an opportunity to come to me with their questions and concerns which created a positive office buzz. Employees said that these occasional types of breaks in the office made a huge positive impact to the team moral and their wellbeing.
There are so many ways that bringing more awareness and funding can help us all to improve mental health in the workplace, but this is one way I can help make an impact.
